Domingo Lopez and Fidel Reyes Hospitalized after Santa Maria Collision at East Betteravia and Philbric Roads
Santa Maria, California ( May 2, 2022) – Domingo Perez Lopez, 32, and Fidel Gomes Reyes, 64, have been identified as two drivers who were injured in a fatal collision that happened in Santa Maria on Monday morning.
The California Highway Patrol said the accident was reported at around 6:35 a.m. at the intersection of East Betteravia and Philbric Roads.
Lopez was driving a Honda Civic heading south on Philbric Road and had stopped at a stop sign. He then turned left to eastbound Betteravia Road and collided with a 2006 Peterbilt semi-truck that was traveling west.
The collision caused the truck to veer off the roadway and hit a power pole and a fence before its trailer overturned.
A 44-year-old man from Santa Maria, who was a passenger in the Honda, was killed in the crash.
Reyes, who was driving the truck, and Lopez suffered major to moderate injuries and were rushed to Maria Regional Medical Center.
Another passenger in the Honda, Servillano Perez Lopez, was also injured and was taken to hospital.
One person in the sedan was killed in the incident, and another sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
An investigation to determine the cause of the accident is underway.
