Los Angeles, California (March 23, 2022) – A construction worker died Wednesday at the future site of the Wilshire/La Brea on Metro’s Purple Line Extension Project after being hit by a construction train, as per the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

At around 4:50 p.m., the Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters responded to 711 S. La Brea Avenue at Wilshire Boulevard after receiving reports of a person stuck under a train.

The responders found a 32-year-old man trapped underneath a service vehicle. The train brings equipment and personnel back and forth from the surface to the underground work site.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities did not determine what transpired leading to the accident, but said crews were servicing the tunnel and the train at the time of the incident.

The accident is under investigation by the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA).
