CHP Officer Injured in Santa Barbara Car Accident on Highway 101 near Highway 150
Carpinteria, California (June 29, 2021) – A CHP motorcycle officer was injured in a traffic collision involving a stolen vehicle in Carpinteria, Santa Barbara, on Monday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened on Highway 101 near Highway 150 at about 11 a.m. June 28.
A red Mazda, believed to be stolen, was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Highway 101 when a CHPM officer attempted to stop the motorist.
The motorist failed to pull over prompting a chase. At some point, the suspect slowed down and the officer also slowed down.
Wrong-Way Driver Causes Injury Crash on Highway 101 in Santa Barbara
A Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling behind the officer failed to slow down and rear-ended the motorcycle before hitting the suspect’s vehicle.
The suspect sustained minor injuries in the accident and was transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for treatment.
The CHP officer was also taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital with moderate injuries.
The female driver of the Jeep who was the only occupant of the vehicle was also hospitalized with minor injuries.
No additional information about the accident was provided.
The CHP is investigating the accident.
