Kern County, California (May 27, 2021) – A California City police officer was injured in a collision involving a wrong-way driver in Kern County on Tuesday night, May 26.

According to the California City Police Department, the accident happened at about 8:59 p.m. on Neuralia Road.

A vehicle was traveling east in the westbound lane when it collided with a police patrol car that was transporting a suspect to the Kern County Jail in Bakersfield.

The police officer and the suspect he was transporting were transported to an area hospital for treatment.

The wrong-way driver, 27-year-old Stephen Johnson, was arrested and taken to Kern County Jail.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the accident.
