Sacramento, California (June 30, 2021) – A bicyclist was injured after being hit by a suspected DUI driver on the American River Parkway in Sacramento on Tuesday morning, June 29.

At about 9:10 a.m. the California Highway Patrol received reports of a bicycle accident involving a bicyclist in the 1700 block of Tribute Road near Interstate 80 and Highway 160.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a driver drove through the bike trail gates to get onto the bike path when he struck a bicyclist.

Bicyclist Injured in American River Parkway Crash in Sacramento, DUI Suspect Arrested

The bicyclist was transported to the hospital with severe injuries.

The driver, identified only as an adult male, was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

No additional information about the accident was provided.

The CHP is investigating the accident.
