Betty Cardoza Dies in Sonora Motorcycle Accident on Highway 108 at Mono Way
Sonora, California (July 3, 2022) – 57-year-old Betty Maria Cardoza, of Tuolumne, died on Tuesday morning following a motorcycle accident in Sonora, according to the authorities.
The California Highway Patrol said the accident happened at around 7:30 a.m. on Highway 108 near the Mono Way onramp.
Cardoza was riding a 2020 Harley Davidson Street Glide westbound on the highway and was attempting to pass a slow-moving semi-truck when she collided with an oncoming 2019 Chevrolet Cruze.
Cardoza was ejected from the bike and the motorcycle came to rest about 200 feet down an embankment.
Cardoza was severely injured and was flown to Memorial Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.
CHP said the deceased was not wearing a DOT-approved helmet at the time of the crash.
The driver of the Chevy, Carlene Valdez, 70, of Jamestown, was not injured.
Alcohol and drugs did not appear to be factors in the crash.
An investigation into the crash is underway.
