Bakersfield Man Killed in Porterville Crash on Highway 65 Identified

Porterville, California (November 10, 2021) – 53-year-old Luis Carlos, of Bakersfield, is the driver who died in a head-on collision that also left another driver seriously injured Saturday night in Porterville, according to the Porterville Police Department.

The wreck was reported at around 9:30 p.m. on Highway 65 and Tea Pot Dome.

Police did an initial investigation and determined that Carlos was, for unknown reasons, driving a GMC Canyon pickup truck southbound in the northbound lane, and the driver of a white Dodge Caravan was northbound and was unable to avoid a crash.

The vehicles collided head-on, killing Carlos at the scene. The other driver was airlifted to Kaweah Health with major injuries.

Both vehicles were traveling at speeds of at least 65 mph at the collision time.

Police said alcohol may have contributed to the crash since they found full and empty beer cans inside the GMC.

The Porterville Police Department Traffic Unit is investigating the accident.
