UPDATE – (April 8, 2022): The Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 18-year-old Leilani Lake of Livermore.

Brentwood, California (April 7, 2022) – The California Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly car accident that happened Thursday morning in Brentwood.

One person died in the crash that occurred just before 5:50 a.m. on Highway 4 between Balfour Road and Marsh Creek Road.

CHP officers, firefighters, and paramedics responded to the scene to find a Toyota Corolla and an International pump truck involved in the accident.

The officers did a preliminary investigation that revealed that, the driver of the Corolla was going east and the driver of the truck was heading west on the highway. For reasons still under investigation, the Corolla veered into the westbound lane and collided head-on into the truck.

The driver’s side door of the car was completely crushed, and a female party was trapped inside.

The report said the driver of the Corolla died at the scene.

The driver of the truck was not hurt.

The accident forced the closure of the highway in both directions between Balfour Road and Marsh Creek Road. Motorists heading east were being diverted off the highway at Balfour and those heading west were diverted off the highway at Marsh Creek. It took several hours for the highway to be reopened.

Authorities are investigating the accident.
