At Least 1 Dies in Two-Vehicle Collision on Highway 43 at Pond Road near Wasco
Kern County, California (April 7, 2022) – At least one person died in a two-vehicle collision that occurred Thursday afternoon near Wasco in Kern County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officers said the accident was reported at around 3:42 p.m. on Highway 43 at Pond Road.
A silver Ford Expedition SUV driven by 57-year-old Guillermo M. Valera was traveling north on Highway 43 when it collided with a blue Toyota Corolla at the intersection. Both vehicles went off the roadway into a ditch after the first impact.
The driver of the Corolla was unconscious and pinned inside the wreckage. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Valera suffered minor injuries in the crash and was transported to the hospital for treatment.
Both cars were towed away with major front-end damage.
CHP is investigating the collision.
