Fresno, California (March 6, 2022) – Seven children were hospitalized Saturday afternoon after a DUI crash that happened near an intersection in Fresno, according to authorities.

30-year-old Freddie Guerrero was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

The accident occurred at around 2:15 p.m. near East Ashlan Avenue and North Cedar Avenue.

Fresno police said Guerrero was driving a truck at a high rate of speed when he crashed into the passenger side of a van that was making a left turn into a shopping center.

The van was occupied by five children ranging from a 10-month to a 9-year-old, and the driver. The truck’s passengers included a 7-year-old and a 9-year-old boy.

Authorities said all the children were hospitalized, one of them with a broken leg. It was not clear if the drivers were injured.

Officers arrested Guerrero on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. He is facing several charges, including child endangerment.
