6 Injured in Plumas Car Crash on Highway 70 near Maddalena Road, William Barnard Arrested for DUI
Plumas, California (July 29, 2021) – A man was injured in a DUI car crash that occurred on Highway 70 in Plumas on Sunday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened on State Route 70, east of Maddalena Road at about 12:38 a.m.
22-year-old William Barnard, of Reno, Nevada, was driving a 2007 Toyota 4-Runner eastbound while intoxicated when he allowed his vehicle to drift into the westbound lane and collided head-on with a 2021 Audi driven by 69-year-old Leonard Leavitt, of Maclean, Virginia.
The impact of the collision caused the Toyota to overturn several times coming to rest on its wheels.
6 Injured in State Route 70 DUI Car Crash in Plumas
The driver of the Audi along with four occupants had to be extricated before being transported to Renown Medical Center with moderate injuries.
Barnard was also transported to Renown for treatment of major injuries. He was later arrested on suspicion of DUI.
No additional information about the accident was provided.
The CHP is investigating the accident.
