Sheriff’s Deputy Injured in Car Accident at Niles Street and Virginia Street in Bakersfield
Bakersfield, California (August 30, 2021) – A sheriff’s deputy and three other people were injured in a traffic collision that occurred early Saturday morning in East Bakersfield.
The crash happened in the area of Niles and Virginia streets at about 12:45 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
A black 2004 Chevy Silverado was traveling northbound on Virginia Street when it allegedly ran a red light and struck a marked patrol car that was traveling west on Niles.
The Silverado then struck a traffic pole before overturning at a parking lot.
The deputy suffered moderated injuries in the accident and was transported to the hospital for treatment.
Two female passengers in the Chevy were hospitalized with major injuries. A man in the vehicle sustained minor injuries in the accident.
The pickup truck driver, 27-year-old Abram Parra-Pantoja, of Arvin, fled the scene and was yet to be located.
No additional information about the accident was provided.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
