2 Killed and 4 Injured in 5 Freeway Car Crash near Highway 43 in Bakersfield
Bakersfield, California (June 17, 2021) – Two people were killed in a two-car crash on Wednesday in Bakersfield, Kern County.
The deadly collision happened Interstate 5 south of Highway 43, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A 51-year-old Modesto man was driving a 2003 GMC southbound on Interstate 5 Freeway when the vehicle experienced a right rear tire tread separation, causing the vehicle to overturn several times.
The driver and his left rear passenger were ejected from the vehicle at some point.
The passenger landed in the northbound No. 2 lane of the freeway and was hit by a northbound 2021 driven by a 46-year-old man.

The GMC driver and the passenger were killed in the accident.
Two other passengers in the GMC were transported to Kern Medical for treatment
The driver and passenger of the 2021 Toyota sustained minor injuries in the accident.
No additional information about the accident was provided.
The CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.
