Hong Fei Zhang Dies in 40 Freeway Car Accident near Desert Oasis Rest Area in San Bernardino
San Bernardino, California (November 5, 2021) – Hong Fei Zhang, 77, of Hacienda Heights, has been identified as the man who was killed in a Thursday night traffic collision in Newberry Spring.
The fatal crash was reported at about 9:28 p.m. on November 4, on Needles (40) Freeway near the Desert Oasis Rest Area.
The California Highway Patrol said William Green, 49, was driving a van at a high rate of speed when he crashed into a pickup truck on the freeway.

Zhang was a passenger in the van and was ejected after the vehicle overturned. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 53-year-old Arcadia man who was driving the pickup truck sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for treatment.
As per the report, Green was arrested on suspicion felony DUI, causing bodily injury.
More details about the crash were not immediately available.
The CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.
