Man Killed in Multi-Vehicle Collision on 280 Freeway near Fourth Street in San Jose
San Jose, California (August 1, 2021) – A man was killed in a traffic collision that happened in San Jose early Sunday morning.
The fatal car crash happened on Interstate 280 Freeway near the Fourth Street on-ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The police said a 1972 Chevy Impala had entered the freeway from the on-ramp and was hit by a Toyota Prius. The two vehicles came to a stop in the far-left lane and both drivers got out of their vehicles.
A short time later, a 2008 BMW 328i sedan traveling at a high rate of speed hit the two stopped vehicles. The impact of the crash knocked the driver of the Impala off the elevated freeway.
The victim, who was identified only as a 40-year-old man died at the scene of the accident, according to the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.

The 24-year-old Sunnyvale man who was driving the BMW and his passenger, a 24-year-old San Jose man, sustained minor injuries in the accident and were transported to Regional Medical Center for treatment.
No additional information about the accident was provided.
The CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.
