1 Dead, 2 Seriously Injured in Elk Grove Wrong-Way Crash on Stockton Boulevard
Elk Grove, California (September 18, 2021) – One person was killed and two others injured in a wrong-way collision that happened on Thursday morning in Elk Grove, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred at around 2:40 a.m. September 16, on the Stockton Boulevard on-ramp to Highway 99.
The Elk Grove Police Department officers were pursuing a stolen gold Honda Accord on Calvine Road when the car entered Highway 99 and traveled north on the southbound lane.
The stolen Honda headed the wrong way up to the Stockton Boulevard on-ramp, where it collided head-on with a Honda Insight.
A male passenger in the stolen car suffered severe injuries and was rushed to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The deceased was identified as 48-year-old Derrick Deion Simpson.
The driver of the Honda Insight was trapped inside the car and was extricated before being transported to the hospital with major but non-life-threatening injuries.
Jacob MacPherson, 34, from Sacramento, who was driving the stolen Honda, was also taken to the hospital with severe injuries.
The CHP said McPherson was driving under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash, and he is likely to face DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter, among other charges.
An investigation into the crash is underway.
